OTTAWA - An explosive season in the USL Championship has earned Fury FC forward Christiano Francois a call-up to the Haitian National Team for its upcoming pair of CONCACAF Nation’s League qualifying matches versus Curacao.
“I’m honoured for the opportunity to play for my country,” said Francois, whose performance this year is currently helping Fury hold down an Eastern Conference playoff spot. “I am excited to play and give everything I have for this great nation and I can’t wait to make my debut."
A key piece of Fury’s attack, Francois has scored seven goals in 2019, tied for second on the squad behind only captain Carl Haworth. This is the first international callup for the 26-year-old from the Haitian city of Cabaret who is in the midst of a career year in USL Championship competition. Francois will be away from Fury from September 1-11, with Haiti playing on September 7 and 10.
“It's always a great honour to have a member of the Ottawa Fury representing not only their national team but also take part in the 2019–20 CONCACAF Nations League,” said Fury FC General Manager Julian de Guzman. “We wish Francois all the best with his first call up and many more in the future.
Fury FC is back in action on Friday night when they host Francois’s former team, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, at TD Place at 7 p.m.
