Ottawa adds offensive firepower with the addition of 6-foot-4 Cape Verdean forward Steevan Dos Santos

The squad for Fury FC continues to grow ahead of their inaugural season in USL. The club announced Thursday the 12th player signed for the 2017 campaign with the addition of Cape Verdean striker Steevan Humberto Fortes Dos Santos (Steevan Dos Santos), pending league and federation approval.

Dos Santos spent the last two seasons playing with the Rochester Rhinos, where he won the USL Championship in 2015 alongside current Fury FC defender Onua Obasi. In 48 matches with the Rhinos, the 6-foot-4 forward scored 21 goals in all competitions.

“Our main priority this recruitment season was to find a dominant forward to start taking advantage of the many chances we have been creating and in Steevan, we got our man,” said head coach Paul Dalglish. “We are excited to see how many goals he can score for Fury FC.”

Dos Santos began his career in his native country Cape Verde with CS Mindelense from 2007-2012, before moving to Norway where he featured for Ullensaker/Kisa IL for two campaigns from 2012-2013, scoring 27 goals.

After his experience in Norway, Dos Santos moved to Angola, signing for Progresso for a short period of time, before coming to North America, joining the USL’s Rochester Rhinos in March 2015. The 27-year-old forward also has International experience, as he was called up once to play for the Cape Verdean National team against Catalonia in December 2013.

“I am happy to join Ottawa Fury FC,” said Dos Santos. “From what I've heard from other players, Ottawa has a great organization, soccer culture and great supportive fans. I look forward to contribute to the team and in the process score many goals for the club in the upcoming season. Also, I look forward to see all of the fury fans at TD place.”
