Despite converting an early penalty kick at the 11th minute and taking a 1-0 lead, Fury FC saw their undefeated streak halted at four games Friday afternoon, as Toronto FC II defeated Ottawa 2-1 in a preseason friendly at KIA Field.
Things started off well for Ottawa, as Steevan Dos Santos was brought down in the box, ten minutes into the game, and earned himself a penalty kick. The Cape Verdean striker didn’t miss his chance and scored his first of the preseason, giving his team a 1-0 lead.
Toronto scored two goals before the end of the first half and took a 2-1 lead heading into the locker room. Brian James – who participated in Toronto FC’s first team camp earlier last month – scored both goals for his club. The first one came at the 19th minute, while his second goal came two minutes before halftime.
Ottawa started off the second half with a lot of intensity and passion looking for the equalizer. Callum Irving kept his team in the game at the 80th minute when he perfectly timed his dive and saved a penalty kick from Toronto. Despite having a few good chances late in the game, Fury FC were unable to tie the game and were ultimately defeated 2-1 for the first time in preseason.

What are they saying?
Fury FC GM and Head Coach, Paul Dalglish:
"It was disappointing for the first half. We were still on the bus in the first 45 minutes, it’s nowhere near our level. I can understand that we can be tired after 4 hours on the bus, but we don’t want to us that as an excuse. We have to be better in that first half. In the second half we were much better, but not good enough. It’s a good thing this happens now, early in preseason and we have time to fix it.”
Fury FC Captain, Lance Rozeboom:
“It’s never fun losing, no matter what time of the year it is. To be honest, the first half wasn’t good enough, wasn’t up to our standards. I’m happy with how we reacted in the second half, even though we didn’t get the tying goal. We’re going to learn from this.”
Starting XI (Formation 3-4-3):
Irving; Obasi, Martin Del Campo, McEleney; Campbell (Mkungilwa 84'), Williams (Training player 84'), Rozeboom, Dixon (Barden 46'); Haworth, Dos Santos (Hume 62'), Sito (Bruna 46')
