Fury FC signs Kevín Oliveira

With training camp to open at the end of the month, Ottawa Fury FC added another dynamic element to their formation with the signing of attacking midfielder Kevín Oliveira (Aw-liv-air-ah), the club announced today, pending league and federation approval.

Oliveira, a 21-year-old midfielder from Sao Vicente, Cape Verde, brings a familiar style and energy for Fury FC Head Coach Nikola Popovic, who had him on his squad with Swope Park Rangers the past two seasons, but also as a youngster when Oliveira was just breaking through at Benfica B in 2015.

“Kevín Oliveira is a very promising midfielder who knows the USL league very well,” said Fury FC Head Coach Nikola Popovic. "We had success our last two seasons when Kevín was playing at a high level, winning two titles at Swope Park Rangers, and in my eyes was one of the best players in USL."

After moving to Portugal from Cape Verde at age 14 and joining Benfica’s Academy in 2010, Oliveira joined Swope Park Rangers ahead of the club’s inaugural season in February 2016. In two seasons in USL, he’s featured in 31 matches scoring six goals – including the first-ever goal in Swope Park Rangers’ history – and cumulating six assists. He signed an MLS contract with parent club Sporting Kansas City in September 2017 and made two appearances before going back to finish the season on loan with Swope Park, helping them return to the USL Cup Final for a second straight season.

Oliveira has been involved with Cape Verde’s National Team program at the youth and senior level and made his Men’s National Team debut on October 7, 2017 as a second-half substitute in the side’s FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Senegal.

“We’re looking forward to see what Kevin, a young, explosive midfielder, can bring to our club,” said Fury FC General Manager Julian de Guzman. “We know he has the potential to infuse swiftness and excitement on the field, which will help us deliver the attractive and successful style of play we promised for our fans.”
Ottawa Fury FC opens training camp on January 29 ahead of the club’s fifth season. Fury FC will open the 2018 USL season on March 17 in Charlotte against the Independence, and will host North Carolina FC on April 21 at TD Place in their 2018 Home Opener.

Season Tickets for the 2018 USL season are available now at, by calling 613.232.6767 X1 or in person at the Box Office at TD Place.
