Top 5 Matches to Circle on Your Calendar

The USL Championship schedule is officially out and the lads can’t wait to get started on a brand new campaign for their club. In total there will be 17 matches played here at TD Place that begins on April 6th and ends on October 12th.

Throughout the 2019 USL Championship season Fury FC will play 3 home matches in the months of April, June and August with the club being on the road for the entire month of March to kick off the season. Head Coach Nikola Popovic and General Manager Julian de Guzman are hopeful that an earlier start to training camp and a more dynamic play style structured to fit each individual player’s strengths will result in more wins earlier in the season.

Fans will notice 4 new USL clubs will be making their debuts this season in the Eastern Conference with Loudoun United FC, Memphis 901 FC, Birmingham Legion FC and Hartford Athletic all joining the league in 2019.

It’s sure to be another exciting season of USL Championship soccer in 2019 but here are 5 matches for you to circle on your calendar:

1) April 6th versus Nashville FC – Home Opener 2019

Fury FC welcomed Nashville FC to the league last season with both clubs winning at home 2-0. Fans will remember an exciting match between these two last season that saw Fury FC score 2 goals in final minutes of the match to claim the victory. With this also being the return of soccer to the Nation’s Capital in 2019 this is sure to be a match you won’t want to miss.

2) July 14th versus Louisville City FC – Defending Champs Come to Town

The back to back USL Cup Champions make their return to TD Place on July 14th which will be a big test for Fury FC. Last season Ottawa lost both meetings with Louisville City as Fury FC will hope a new season and better style of play will hope to steal some points away from the defending champs in 2019.

3) July 20 versus Swope Park Rangers – Nikola Popovic Faces His Old Club

Fury FC Head Coach Nikola Popovic will get the chance to coach against his former club for the first time when Swope Park Rangers make their Eastern Conference debut in 2019. Popovic was head coach of Swope Park back in 2017 where he led the club to a USL Western Conference Championship and eventually making the league final for the second season in a row. Last season Popovic was Head Coach for your Ottawa Fury FC and will now have the chance along with former Swope Park Ranger Midfielder Kevin Oliveira to play against their former club in 2019.

4) August 30th versus Pittsburgh Riverhounds – The Cheetah Battles the Hounds

Former Pittsburgh Riverhound and current Ottawa Fury FC Forward Christiano François will face his former club late in August in what should be a competitive battle between two great USL Championship clubs. François who refers to himself as “The Cheetah” will look to use his incredible speed to his advantage when he faces his former teammates at TD Place.

5) October 12 versus Bethlehem Steel FC – Final Home Match of 2019/Push for the Playoffs

Similar to last season Fury FC will play its final home match of 2019 in mid October which could make for a great comfortable atmosphere at TD Place weather wise. Expectations have been set for this club to reach the postseason coming into the 2019 USL Championship season so our final home match should be a great one!
